Greenworks to Restart Service

Proposed Schedule

Greenworks intends to get back out there and accomplish Public Works pickups for Lewisburg City residents, starting Monday, May 4th.

The plan will be to restart pickups the week of the 11th for our private pay customers throughout Greenbrier County.

The situation is dynamic and fluid and could change, this is current as of today. Any changes or modifications to this schedule will be posted and discussed here.

Protected Team, Following Guidelines

We are developing and offering training to our team, as well as relevant PPE for their protection. Our Techs will operate alone to provide for distancing between the team; and we ask that customers please follow the distancing guidelines as well if and when interacting with Greenworks folks.

Bagged Materials Only

To protect our staff and our community, we may only pickup and stockpile materials at the moment. We will at a point in the future return to our stockpile, finish sorting and process it for recycling.

Loose materials increase the risk to our workers. We will only pick up BAGGED MATERIALS plus CARDBOARD. NO GLASS. Please break down cardboard as per usual and bind it or fill one of the larger boxes with your broken down cardboard.

Please understand that loose materials or materials in bins, etc will not be picked up.

Thank You for Your Patience

We appreciate you folks that have continued to recycle during this challenging time. Many of you have large stockpiles built up. We are going to try our best to serve the community, as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Taste of Our Towns 2019 & Greenworks

Greenworks partnered with Carnegie Hall’s Taste of Our Towns to provide recycling bins for event attendees.

A Lewisburg Tradition

Since the mid-80s, the second Saturday in October brings out local restaurants, vendors, shops, and groups to enjoy music, entertainment, games, and a wide array of local foods, treats, specialties, and delicacies. Shops throughout Lewisburg are also open throughout the day. It is a diverse, eclectic and incredibly tasty exploration of the local community.

35th Annual TOOT

This year’s event took place Saturday, October 12, 2019. The day started with a downpour, and organizers, vendors, residents and attendees all did their thing anyway! Within an hour or so, the weather cooperated and was a wonderful event for all who attended.

Commitment to Recycling

Greenworks is happy and honored to be a part of TOOT’s commitment to diverting materials from the waste stream and embracing recycling.

Healing Appalachia & Greenworks

Greenworks provided bins and recycling services for the recent sold-out Healing Appalachia concert at the State Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 28th, 2019.

Healing Appalachia’s Mission is to produce events with the intent to raise funds to benefit projects and programs that aim to eradicate addiction in the greater Appalachian region.

They envision a prosperous Appalachian region free from addiction.

Check out more about the project, get some merch, or make a donation!

We were happy and honored to be a part of the event, and wish them all the very best on their journey towards reducing addiction’s impact on our area and beyond. We are also thankful for their commitment to sustainability and recycling. Onward and upward.

Earth Day – The Lorax at the Lewis Theatre

In honor of Earth Day, Greenworks invited Greenbrier County elementary school students from Alderson and White Sulphur Springs for a free showing of The Lorax at the Lewis Theatre in Lewisburg.

Dr. Seuss wrote The Lorax almost 50 years ago about the importance of protecting and taking care of the environment – and the message has only grown more powerful.

A young boy searches for a way to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. He discovers the story of the Once-ler, an ambitious entrepreneur and the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect the environment.

This child’s adventure exposes him, and us, to a much larger story – one of an environment that must be protected against those who would profit from it. Unchecked greed can be a threat to nature.

“I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees. I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.”

Trees serve us in many ways! Trees are a natural air filter, removing pollutant gases and other harmful particles from the air we breathe. Also, when trees are harvested responsibly, they become a renewable resource that we utilize daily – trees provide us lumber for houses, school paper, cardboard and so much more.

When we recycle paper and cardboard, the need to harvest more trees is reduced. Paper can be recycled 6 or 7 times!

Thankfully, over 68 million tons of paper and related products are recovered annually in the U.S., a recycling rate of over 64 percent – which is fantastic! Through education and the actions of young people just like you – we recycle a bit more paper every year!

Respect for the environment helps us preserve the planet for ourselves and future generations. That respect can live in harmony with progress.

The University of Southern Indiana reports that every ton of recycled paper can spare 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 4,000 kilowatts of energy, 7,000 gallons of water and three cubic yards of space at the landfill.

The cost to construct a paper mill that will use recycled paper is significantly lower than the investment required for a mill relying on fresh pulp.

Over one-third of new paper is produced with recycled fiber. Other fiber sources include whole trees and plants, and residue from sawmills. By weight, paper comprises more than a third of all recyclables collected in the US.

By reducing our usage, reusing everything possible, and recycling anything we can – we minimize our collective strain on the planet.

Plant a tree; conserve water and electricity! Use less plastic! Use paper bags! Consider ways to live more sustainably and with less impact on the environment.

In the words of Dr. Seuss: UNLESS SOMEONE LIKE YOU CARES A WHOLE AWFUL LOT, NOTHING IS GOING TO GET BETTER. IT’S NOT.
